Chess and Education, Chess in Italy

One of the most important problems concerning young people in our age is “bullying” (acting tough). Chess may become an embankment (do not forget, for example, that Bobby Fischer was said to have received his first chessboard by his sister, who wanted to avoid that he went with the tough guys in the street).

To speak about the problem of “bullying” (acting tough) a conference was held in ROMA on Friday, January 29th, in the theatre and library “Teatro-Biblioteca Quarticciolo” (www.teatrobibliotecaquarticciolo.it).

The conference was promoted by an important politician, Mr. Roberto Mastrantonio, President of the “VII Municipio” of the city of Roma, and organized by Mr. Lucio Ragonese of the Chess Club Frascati Scacchi.

The title of the conference was “Chess against acting tough – to follow the rules”.

There were many spokesmen (psychologists, journalists, teachers, chess trainers etc and also an anthropologist). Moreover some political and sport authorities: an official referee of CONI (the Italian Sport Olympic Committee) one of the Italian Minister for Public Instruction and also the chief of the local barracks of Carabinieri.

Complete program, abstracts and information (for the moment in Italian) plus photos on www.frascatiscacchi.it.

People interested in receiving the translation of the speeches in English can write to info@frascatiscacchi.it (please note that the translation will take some time)

At the end (about 5 pm) there was a simul exhibition by Daniela Movileanu, Italian girls Under 14 champion, against 16 opponents; Daniela won all the games in about 1 hour and half.
