      Salem Becomes Youngest GM in Arabia
      January 1, 2009

      SHARJAH – Salem A.R. Saleh rewrote history by becoming the youngest grandmaster in Arabia. Salem completed his third grandmaster norm and has gained sufficient ELO points to gain the prestigious title.

      Dr. Suliaman Al Fahim president of United Arab Emirates chess federation awarded 100,000 dirhams to Salem for winning the title and said: “We are hoping to achieve greater heights and today it is a grand success for UAE”.

      Salem said: “I am extremely happy and now can move on to my next goal which is to improve my ELO points to 2700”.

      International master Salem A.R. Saleh of UAE became the undisputed winner and clinched the Championship title in Men‚s section with 7 points after the ninth and final round of Arab Chess Championship held at Al Bustan Hotel, Sharjah. GM Al-Modiahki Mohamad of Qatar became the runner up with 6.5 points while GM AMin Bassem of Egypt took the bronze.

      Salem defeated IM Khader Sami of Jordan in 34 moves.
