Al Ain A in showdown with Vietnam Victory

Al Ain: Hosts Al Ain A team were due to enter a crucial match against Vietnam Victory in their last match in the Asian Chess Champions League last night, hoping to clinch the two points and secure the title.
The hosts were set back in the penultimate round when they had to settle for draws in all four boards with their counterparts from second seeded Fajr Shams, from Iran, as they increased their tally to 11 points from 6 matches, losing their first point in the tournament.
Winning their last match will put them beyond the reach of their nearest rivals, Qi Yuan from China and Tagaytay from the Philippines, who will face each other as they collected 10 points each.
“We are ready for the final match and we know its importance to win the title,” Hesham Al Taher, the captain of Al Ain A team, told Gulf News. “We will be expecting a tough fight in the final match.”
Meanwhile, the Al Ain B team have scored another victory over Al Shuolaa club from Yemen 2.5-1.5 to increase their tally to 8 points while Sharjah remained with 5 points after losing against Glkynysh from Turkmenistan 3.5-0.5.
Club India were surprisingly defeated by Mon-Cad from Mongolia 3-1 to deny them a leading position as they remained with six points.
