      Boca Raton, Florida, US Senior Championship


      A fantastic event in sunny Florida!

      April 28-May 3, 2008
      U.S. Senior Open – Florida

      Marriott Boca Center, 5150 (not 1550) Town Center Circle, Boca Raton, FL 33486. Type: Open to all USCF members born before April 28, 1958. 5 round swiss plus a final playoff round. 40/2 plus SD in 1. Playoff round between 1st and 2nd place (or all with perfect scores) for overall and for each age category. Details on playoff round will be decided upon at a playoff meeting at the start of the tournament.

      Playoff: If there is a tie in points, there will be a one-game “Modified Armageddon” playoff for the tournament and age bracket champions. White gets 120 minutes – Sudden Death. Black gets draw odds. Players open bid against the other player for black. The player willing to play the black side with the fewest minutes gets black and draw odds. Game six will not be rated. The rule of playing a player twice will not apply to game 6. If one player has a clear first in game points after five rounds, there will be no game 6 playoff.

      Schedule: Official Opening Monday 6:30 pm. Rds: 1 – Mon. 7:00 pm, 2 – Tues. 7:00 pm, 3 – Wed. 10:00 am, 4 – Thurs. 7:00 pm, 5 – Fri. 7:00 pm. Awards Banquet: Saturday, May 3 – 7:00 pm. Entry Fee – $99 if received by Mar. 21; $109 if received by April 21; and at site $125. Free entry for GMs and IMs. Advance entries should be sent to US Chess Federation, Senior Open, PO Box 3967, Crossville, TN 38557-3967.

      Checks payable to US Chess Federation. Prize Fund – $5,500 Guaranteed: 1st: $1,100, 2nd: $700, 3rd: $400, 4th: $100, U2300: $300 – 100, U2200: $300 – 100, U2000: $250-100, U1800: $200-100, U1600: $200 – 100, U1400: $150-100, $100 for unrated and each national age champion: 50-54, 55-59, 60-64, 65-69, 70-74 and over 75. Also $500 to top over 60 in first 5 rounds towards expenses to go to the World Senior Championship in Bad Zwischenahn, Germany (Oct. 28 to Nov.8) as official USCF entry which includes room and board by host country. Trophies for 1st, 2nd, 3rd and age national champions.

Any Reservation made after March 1, 2008 will be accepted on a space and rate available basis. Chess Collectors International CCI will be hosting their annual convention concurrent with the 2008 World Senior Open Championship. Many interesting displays and talks.
