GM Antonio gets highest points in Fide ratings for November

GRANDMASTER Rogelio “Joey” Antonio Jr. is the biggest gainer in the latest Nov. 1 Philippines World Chess Federation (Fide) rating list after adding 17 ELO rating points, from 2557 to 2574.

The Sta.Mesa, Manila native Antonio, a sergeant at the HSSG of the Philippine Army under Commanding Lt. Gen. Delfin Bangit, remains at No.2 position in the list.

“I hope to break the 2600 ELO mark,” Antonio said before he left the country on Thursday bound for Hanoi for the Asian Indoor Games.

Interestingly, Antonio playing at No.2 board for the Nationals in the 3rd Asian Indoor Games in Vietnam, played superbly after collecting eight wins and a draw in nine outings in the Team Blitz preliminary event.

Super GM Wesley So remains as the country’s highest-rated player with an ELO of 2640-four points down from his previous ELO 2644.

However, the bad news is the Bacoor, Cavite whiz kid bowed out in the top 100 list.

GM Victor Laznicka of Czech Republic, GM Anton Korobov of Ukraine and GM Pavel Tregubov of Russia were tied at No.99 to 101 positions with identical 2642 ELO rating points.

Completing the Top 20 Filipino players are No.3 GM Darwin Laylo (2552), No.4 GM-elect Rogelio “Banjo” Barcenilla (2518), No.5 GM John Paul Gomez (2507), No.6 GM Eugenio Torre (2506), No.7 GM Mark Paragua (2497), No.8 IM Roland Salvador (2491), No.9 GM Joseph Sanchez (2487), No.10 IM Julio Catalino Sadorra (2478), No.11 GM-elect Ronald Dableo (2464), No.12 IM Richard Bitoon (2458).No.13 IM Oliver Barbosa (2452), No.14 GM Jayson Gonzales (2441), No.15 GM Buenaventura “Bong” Villamayor (2438),No.16.IM Oliver Dimakiling (2435), No.17 IM Rolando Nolte (2420), No.18 IM Rolly Martinez (2417), No.19 IM Kim Steven Yap (2416) and No.20 IM Rico Mascarinas (2410). listed, with a total titled of 1926.

Philippines is at no.32 position with average rating of 2525, 10 GMs listed, 25 IMs and 57 total titled indicated in the Fide chart.
