Chess is finally getting prominence in the land of Grand Master Viswanathan Anand. A Fifth World Championship title from the legend has led to Chief Minister Jayalalithaa introducing chess in a big way at the grass root level.
To begin with, chess is being introduced in all government and aided schools in Tamil Nadu. A programme to train teachers in chess began at the T. V. Sundaram Iyengar Higher Secondary School at Jaihindpuram here on Thursday. Sixty teachers from higher secondary, high, middle and primary schools in 15 panchayat unions in Madurai district are participating in the two-day programme. From among them, one teacher from each school will have a chess refresher course on July 16 and 17 again in Madurai.
In the third week of June, four teachers from each district attended a four-day training programme at Sports Development Authority of Tamil Nadu, Nehru Stadium, Chennai.
The inaugural function was presided over by J. Santhamurthy, District Educational officer, Usilampatti. Headmaster H. Kalyanasundaram addressed the participants. The chess training programme is organised by S. Nagaraja Murugan, Chief Educational Officer, and coordinated by R. Parameswari, District Inspector of Physical Education. Resource persons are Ramesh of Government High School, Melur; Sam Inbaraj of Nadar Higher Secondary School, South Gate; Saravanan of Government High School, Kalimangalam; and Chandramohan of Government Higher Secondary School, Sattur.

i hope we can see Vishy Anand play Carlsen in the next WCC.
That would be a treat for sure…the reigning champion against the crown prince (with all due apologies to Aronian and Nakamura).
