Of course, 1. … Kh2 is met by 2. Qe5+ & good night, too.
It’s a “puzzle to boost your morning brain,” but I stared at it for a while, mistakenly believing I was playing Black from the bottom of the board, and wondering why it wasn’t mate on the move by 1. Qb8. It took a few seconds before I realized I had the board reversed. How’s that for a morning brain?
This one was pretty straightforward: no mate is available so white has to win black’s queen somehow, and then there’s only one realistic way of doing so…
Let’s try 1. Bh3+
1. … Kxh3 (1. … Kf3 2. Qe3#)
2. Qg1 Kh4
3. Qh2+ Kg4
4. f3+

Um, excuse me,isn’t Qg1 just mate?
The p protects the Q, the B covers the two white escape squares. White isn’t in check or anything as far as I can see and the Q can’t be captured.
Oh wait – the pawn is on the second rank. *blush*
Any chance these morning puzzles can be postponed until the afternoon? This is the last thing I want to see early in the day :/
