      AFC President honors winners of Asian Individual Championship

      WAM SUBIC, June 12th, 2010: President of the Asian Chess Federation, or ACF, Sheikh Sultan bin Khalifa Bin Shakhbout Al-Nahyan has honored the winners of the federation’s 9th Asian Individual Championship 2010 hosted by Subic city, Philippines between 20-30 April 2010.

      Vietnam had the lion’s share of wins bagging a total of 112 medals – 56 gold, 33 silver and 23 bronze- at the championship. All male and female contestants at the championship are aged between 8 and 20.

      In second place came the Philippines with a total of 86 medals followed by Indonesia with 18 medals.

      In remarks following the ceremony, Sheikh Sultan said there Federation has put plans in place to increase the number of chess championships for age groups who are the basis of a future strategy developed by the Federation.
