Go Humpy!
Should this match really happen? There are so many talented and steadier players than Mrs Koneru.
Is it a “Politically Correct” choice of a challenger?
It’s a little lopsided a contest.
It’s sort of sad Judit..or Susan ..can’t (won’t) play because they are clearly the strongest and everyone knows it. There ARE no female players at Mrs Yifans level at the moment. If things don’t change..she’ll have that title for years to come. I hope she transitions into mens chess. She’s so young…I’d imagine she could do it.
Aw! c’mon Mike! If there are no female players at Yifan’s level then there is no match! Anyway Koneru is still the higest rated player out there, and she qualified for this match,so quit complaining and let us hope to enjoy a good match.
Well I certainly hope I’m surprised..haha
Mike, Koneru put up a heroic effort to win the Doha Grand Prix to qualify to play against Yifan.
Keep in mind, the odds were stacked against because if two of the other players simply won their last game, she would not have qualified. PLUS she had to beat former women world champion, Zu Chen, with black! Which she did, convincigly!
Koneru has some issues with her federation and so on. This has impacted her play considerably. There are numerous articles on this, including one last week here on this website. I think Koneru will be ready for the match!
Go Humpy!!
Well consider my outlook changed after you two beat me up..(and kindly so). Perhaps I was speaking too quickly.
Hopefully it’s a good match.
So where are the details? How much is the prize purse and where will it be played? And when???

Hi Susan Polgar,
Well,No doubt, across globe numerous women chess prodigies exist.
But once players are decided for a particular tournament, evaluating between the chosen two for the concerned tournament, will appear as sound and healthy discussion – even the chess prodigies not involved in this tournament will be much pleased to know & share their view/evaluation happily.
So now, skills vise “Humpy Koneru” is stronger than “Hou Yifan”.
What “Humpy Koneru” has to develop is her timing,I am not saying about the clock but the positioning of chess pieces at correct time – for that,”pounce and patience” attitude must be enhanced.
Having said this “noway undermines the skills of Hou Yifan”.
Exiting matches are expected between “Humpy Koneru & Hou Yifan”.

Go Humpy! Win the match and it will be a proud moment when both men’s and women’s world champions are from the country that invented chess.
Humpy needs to follow some good aggressive tactical strategies, may be she can request few sessions on this from the great Vishy Anand to help her.
Also, I agree with one user who mentioned that her chess federation has given her lot of problems. I’m hopeful this time she will beat You Hifan
