‘Tea party’ gathering protests big bailout
      By Sue Doyle, Staff Writer
      Updated: 04/14/2009 11:12:11 PM PDT

GLENDALE – Taxpayers angry about the federal government’s multibillion-dollar bailout of financial institutions and other businesses plan to demonstrate today at City Hall as part of a national “tea party” protest.

Organized by the New American Tea Party, a nonpartisan coalition, the protests are aimed at sending Washington a message that banks, the car companies and others getting bailouts should have been left to fail.

“It’s time for them to stop spending,” said Debi Devens, a Glendale resident who spearheaded the local rally. “That’s what got me involved in this.”

Devens said the group is not targeting any specific politician. Instead, they argue the federal government has grown too large and too distant from the taxpayers they represent.

The Glendale rally takes place from noon to 2 p.m. at 613 E. Broadway. Demonstrators are encouraged to bring signs and American flags.
Tea stands for “taxed enough already.”

The New American Tea Party rally kicked off Feb. 27 in Washington, D.C., and is meant to resemble the Boston Tea Party of 1773. For information on the rallies, go to www.newamericanteaparty.com.

What do you think of the idea of these tea party protests? Are you for or against it? Do you agree or disagree with the policies of President Obama?

Obama is dragging this country down to Third World status. When you take from those that work and give to those that dont/wont then you have what what is Socialism. You have what Obama wants for America.

Where were all of you when Bush bankrupted this country by giving corporate welfare to oil companies while emptying the coffers for all of his buddies at Halliburton and Blackwater? Where were you when he deregulated every financial institution and allowed greed and predatory practices to run wild? Obama cut taxes for the middle class and only raised them for the highest tax bracket. Are you in the highest tax bracket? Are the people in these protests? If not, what is the motivation behind them? Who are the puppet masters?

Go look up Barney Frank and Nancy Pelosi and how the stood by and in fact promoted the financing of homes for people not even capable of keeping their electricity on. Some people aren’t responsible enough for home ownership. Yet these Dems of course wanted them to have a home… at yours, (I am assuming you are gainfully employed), and my expense.
People are fed up with the notion that the GOVT owes anyone all these “extras” ie Health coverage, SSI when you havent payed into the system, amnesty for illegals, this in turn means a whole lot more people getting their hands on Govt money. I work hard, make a good living now I am gonna get it in the shorts so that others can profit from my sweat. I work and they eat cheetos, watch Oprah and Dr Phil. Some people have had enough of this.

        Anon 2:11:00….

Where were you? The tea party goers have had it with BOTH parties.

Obama cut taxes for the middle class? Hmm…when he raises taxes on the gas companies and the middle class starts paying $5 a gallon again, do you think the evil rich people are going to be hurting? How about the raise of taxes on a pack of cigs? Doesn’t hurt Obama, he can afford them. The little guy can’t.

My family is in the top 5% that will pay more taxes under Obama and we are strong supporters of his policies. Read Nobel Prize winning columnist Paul Krugman’s column about these supposedly “populist” tea parties that were engineered by the usual suspects like Newt Gingrich. Bush and Co. practically ruined our country and if my family and others who are similarly fortunate have to pay a little more in taxes to get things straightened out, then so be it.

Your taxes do not pay down the debt.

Wise up robo-crat. You have lost your mind like you are losing your money. The Demo-publicans and the Republi-crats have everone fooled.

I attended the Tea Party in Chicago and support this movement. Obama’s trillions of dollars of wasteful spending will destroy this country.

Yes, for too long big business has had its way now it is time for them to pay. Exxon-Mobile was the most profitable country in USA history under Bush – Obama will make sure it is the least. Hopefully his carbon taxes will drive the behemoth out of business along with most of the other uber-profitable businesses. Obama will finally give the poor and downtrodden the money they deserve from living in the most prosperous country on earth. He will free the USA from dependence on business and elevate the standard of living of everyone in the country to a level we can only dream of now. Finally we have a president with the intellect to think of the ideas that will deliver us to the next level of prosperity. He will not be stopped by the naysayers and pessimists !

As much as the right wing propaganda/smear machine want to make a lot of these tea parties, Obama’s approval ratings show that most of the country is relieved to have an intelligent, serious, responsible person in charge of the country after 8 years of Bush and Cheney. The hedge fund people will still have enough money for their drivers and private jets even after higher taxes. I bet that most of the people who commented on this thread are in the 95% of the population who will get a tax cut.

He was busy fighting communism and terrorism with that money so that you can continue to have your gay parades, bumping homo-uglies and enjoy Oprah Winfrey hot dog eating contests. Oprah won by the way…
