At least Van Wely was on top of the list too, after round 1. Will he score another point or half?
This looked more like suicide, didn’t it?
Go Shirov!
Wow !!! Shirov is amazing !
Outstanding
Shirov may yet get the title shot he missed out on after beating Kramnik in a match. Go Shirov
Folks – let’s keep this in perspective. With the exception of Leko, all of his opponents have been under 2700. It’s still a nice accomplishment, but severely skewed by the fact that he has faced mostly bottom-feeders thus far.
Amazing! I don’t like the style of Shirov but one should admit he is really impressive and his games are beautiful! I think Kaspy will have problems sleeping tonight ^^
What’s wrong with the style of Shirov? At last we have a player who doesn’t play for a draw and then still complaints come.
And ‘players below 2700’ (higher than 2600) are still big fishes. Mind you, even Carlsen didn’t win his white game to Short, to name just one example.
When Topalov went on a roll like this in San Luis, everyone cried foul and accused him of using a computer. Now Shirov is doing it, and we have only praise for him.
The point is if you stay away from dull ‘political’ chess like Kramnik, Leko and Svidler, and instead play uncompromising attacking chess like Topalov, Shirov and Carlsen, you stand a higher chance of having results like this.
to Anonymous – quote “severely skewed by the fact that he has faced mostly bottom-feeders thus far”
check your chess history, even the winners of past Corus events dont score +5 after playing the whole field !
Shirov is on FIRE !
Shirov is big patzer.
Of the 5 that Shirov has played so far, Ivanchuk has 4 common opponents, with whom Chucky is 3/4. Carlsen has 3 common opponents, and he is 2.5/3. Shirov is impressive, but not that incredible from this comparison.
I like chess.
He’s impressive allright. 5 out of 5 is 100% in my book.
