2004 world chess champion Rustam Kasymjanov (Uzbekistan) and current world champion Viswanathan Anand (India) held a friendly match in Tashkent on 27 March.

The event was organized by the Ministry for Culture and Sports of Uzbekistan, Uzbekistan Chess Federation, and the Fund “Forum of Culture and Arts of Uzbekistan” with the purpose of popularization of chess in the country.

“Today’s friendly has brought together two outstanding world champions – Rustam Kasymjanov and Viswanathan Anand,” president of the World Chess Federation Kisran Ilyumzhinov said.

“Uzbekistan is known in the world with its chess traditions. It is great that Uzbekistan pays huge attention to development of children’s sport, including chess,” he added.

The rapid chess friendly match consisted of four parties and ended with the victory of Viswanathan Anand – 3.5-0.5.

On 28 March Viswanathan Anand and on 29 March Rustam Kasymjanov will hold a training seminar for young chess players of Uzbekistan.

Anand is alright. The lopsided score was probably more due Kasimdzhanov being not in the same stratosphere as the elite than it was due to Anand rocking.

Waste of time. Anand may as well have played a 12 year old girl. Kasim was a FIDE Champion….sort of shows how ridiculous Fide has become no?

        Hi Susan Polgar,

well, its a neat match by both great players.

When the opponent is the team member for other games, definitely the moves must be executed to exhibit the unfold, which Anand did that in his style, nice work.

A sort of Lame exhibition. I really thought Anand was above such cheap stuff. Kasim is perhaps in the top 100 but certainly not a serious opponent for the top ten players. I wonder what Anand was thinking> Did anybody follow the games…I sure didn’t…and I have Zero want to look em up.
