      ‘Include chess in school curriculum’

      Posted: Wed Aug 03 2011, 00:10 hrs

“Chess should be made a part of school curriculum,” said Grand Master Vishwanathan Anand while speaking at the inaugural function of The Golden Future Chess Tournament at Pawar Public School auditorium on Tuesday. The tournament was organised by Global Mind Sports Foundation (GMSF).

“It would be interesting if we have a premier league like cricket and Pune would be the best place to start one such league,” he said.

Replying to a question on the ongoing debate about Sachin Tendulkar’s nomination for Bharatratna, Anand said, “ I believe that sportspersons should concentrate on the game rather than focusing on the administration.”

Commenting on the ongoing World Championship in Chennai, he said, “It has been exciting and distracting at the same time.”

On the notion that western players display more killer instinct than Indians, Anand said, “I have a more relaxed way of showing the killer spirit and i feel all Indians have it too.”

The event also witnessed the lauch of GMSF website apart from the unveiling of a gold and silver plated chess set, autographed by Anand, which will be put up for auction. The proceeds of the auction will be used by All India Chess Federation for the Blind.

Saurabh Gadgil, vice president, GMSF said, “Chess is a positive sport and seeing the God of chess speak is inspirational.”

Nobody will care for what Anand says in india because he is intelligent, hard working and he takes care of himself. Unfortunately he does not depend on the government to make a living. The socialists in india hate him.

Why does the Indian Express (and other media in India) often say “Grand Master” Anand instead of using his correct title “World Chess Champion” ? Why belittle your own countryman?
