      Asian Junior Chess Championship starts on Monday

      Chennai, Jun 11 (PTI) A dozen International Masters, including national champion B Adhiban, will vie for top honours and an automatic berth in the World Junior Championship when the Asian Junior Chess Championship gets underway here on Monday.

      Of the 75 entries in the open category, a record number of 12 IMs and as many as 70 Internationally Rated players from 10 countries have confirmed participation in the event, the finals of which will be held on Jun 23.

      Entries from Bangladesh and Nepal are expected in the tournament which has defending champion IM Aswin Jayaram as the fifth seed.Vidit Santosh Gujrathi, Lalith Babu, Sethuraman, Aswin Jayaram, Karthikeyan, Vaibhav Suri — all with GM norms — are in fray.

      The winner of this championship gets a Grandmaster norm and an International Master Title.
