Chess Today just pointed the following quote from GM Hikaru Nakamura:
“My blitz record which was broken by Alexander Grischuk (Depressnyak) although I wish I could applaud him on this record, it seems rather unfair for players to make deals amongst themselves and toss games as is what happened yesterday. Sadly, this is not the first time Rauf Mamedov (MLRaka, Generalisimus, etc) has tossed games to Grischuk. Back in 2004, when Grischuk became the first person to break 3600, it was none other than Rauf who lost to him 5 games in a row!”
Note: GM Alexander Grischuk has been over 2700 since April 2002. His peak rating was 2732 and has never gone below 2700 since he broke this barrier. He is also a former World Blitz Champion.

Nakamura earns his rating points and we know Hikaru is the best
Sad comment by Nakamura. Not so much the fact that he’s accusing a fellow GM (Super GM at this) of cheating. But because is sad and depressing for American Chess to see his biggest and perhaps only hope care so much about his internet blitz rating.
Egotistical Arrogant Nakamura. Still at least he’s not a son of thug like Kamsky. Grischuk on the other hand, seems to be a good man. Just because a chess player has a good mind in certain respects, doesn’t mean he’s mentally well rounded. The great Fischer showed this.
We should get Rustam Kamsky to sit down and play chess with Nancy Reagan. That would make the game bigger than certain peoples imaginations of things they think they did.
I think we should have Sam Sloan playing chess against a boa constrictor.
My bet is that Slaon will swallow the snake before it swallows him.

Isn’t Nakamura still pretty much just a kid? A childish comment or two can be forgiven. He will grow up some day.
Hmmm, not really, he’s twenty, and as one of the most famous chess players in America he should know better than to say things like that publicly. Not that surprising though… I have heard less-than-flattering things about Nakamura before (along the lines of his being big-headed and whiny, among other things). Hope he grows up a little, because he does have great potential.
Ok, why losing 5 games (blitz) in a row from a player that is 100 rating points better, and also is considered particularly good at blitz, is even considered unatural (let alone sufficient evidence to make cheating claims in public, and for just the rating in ICC…)?
Has Nakamura never beat 2550 player, 5 consequative times in blitz?

Internet chess cheating is a reality. I read ICC takes drastic measures against cheaters, banning them for good. Congrats to Naka for taking a stand against foul play, even if he can’t prove it. Chess players finally try to talk like boxers before their matches. Chess rating should be abolished, something new has to be invented.

That’s just not reasonable. Yes, Internet cheating is a real thing, and taking a stand against foul play is fine – but since it might all have been perfectly legit, Nakamura shows very poor sportsmanship by outright accusing a fellow GM of cheating. If the cheating can’t be proven, you just don’t do that.

I think the only relevant icc rating is the 5-minute pool, where you can’t handpick your oppenents.
I think ICC is crud and nothing less. Always scandalous cheating of different aspects. Anyone who really enjoys playing chess for the sake of playing and doesnt just want a big fat rating or an ego boost would steer clear of this dirty chess swine!

I also agree. the 5-minute games are the best and have most accurate ratings because you cannot hand pick your opponent or times. Just compare everyone’s 5 minute rating to other blitz rating and you will see what I mean. It is always lower than their blitz rating by a substantial amount usually.
I can’t believe he’s making such a big deal over his ICC blitz rating! Who the heck cares about anybody’s ICC ratings? Does it make Nakamura any less of a player that Grischuk broke the record?
Also, I wish people wouldn’t sign in as anonymous all the time. Takes away from their credibility
