      Breakfast for champions

      Bilbao, Grand Slam, Spain

I went down to the hotel restaurant to have breakfast around 10am (breakfast available until 10:30am) this morning. All the participating GMs came in after me. The only one who did not show up was Magnus. His father had breakfast by himself.

There was a very noticeable difference in the ambiance. Yesterday, all 6 GMs and their seconds / teams were in a fun and very friendly mood with each other as well as the media, etc.

Today, they are all very focused with their first game taking place this afternoon. Breakfast was excellent with a nice choice of juices, fruits, cheeses, cold cuts, typical Spanish “tapas” and much more. Another word, everyone has their “game face” on.

Chessdom will have live commentary on Aronian Carlsen game with GM Dimitrov at http://tournaments.chessdom.com/bilbao/grand-slam-aronian-carlsen-live

Carlsen doesn’t need breakfast. He has the gigantic orange juice with him always.

Looks like mostly non-vegetarian fare. What are Anand and Aruna going to eat? Maybe Anand will have Ivanchuk for breakfast, but what about poor Aruna!?
