Breaking News – NY Governor Spitzer resigned (according to NY Senator D’Amato)

Alfonse D'Amato, David A. Paterson, Elliot Spitzer

According to NY Senator Alfonse D’Amato minutes ago, NY Governor Elliot Spitzer resigned and Lt. Governor David A. Paterson is expected to be sworn in as the new Governor shortly. He would become New York’s first African American governor and the first who is legally blind.

As some experts have pointed out, even though he supposedly resigned, it cannot be official until all the proper steps are taken. The official process is being carried out now to make his resignation official. It is expected to be finalized soon.

I’m not able to confirm anywhere on the internet — NYT, CNN, Google News — that Spitzer has resigned. All the sources I’ve looked at say that he apologized, and that’s all, at least as of 2:45 p.m. CDT.

        It’s sad day for NY.

I saw it on TV too. He apologized, said he wasn’t answering questions, and left. No word about resignation (though that may have come later).

Yeah, the lead story on MSNBC is

        “N.Y. gov. apologizes
        after prostitution link”

        CNN.com:

        “Source: Spitzer under prostitution investigation

Source says New York Gov. Eliot Spitzer “under investigation” for allegedly meeting with prostitute

Spitzer, his wife by his side, apologizes to family and public after report

        Spitzer does not resign governorship“

        (My italics)

Where is Alfonse getting his information?

This may be the answer. From CNN:

Before the news conference, three Democratic sources told CNN that a top Spitzer aide had told them that the governor would resign. At the news conference, Spitzer declined to respond to questions as to whether he would resign.

So Alfonse is either wrong, or too early. In any case, this breaking news hasn’t quite broken yet.

“by by filthy democrat. always wants to make rules then exempt themselves from them. whaaaaaaaa typical.”

        Seen in an employment office:

“And what was your last job?”

“I was a shill for the Democratic Party.”

        “What did you do?”

“Whenever a high ranking Democrat screwed up, I spewed venom against them so people would feel sorry for us and think the other guys were even worse.”

“And how much were you paid.”

        “Er… well, nothing, I was a volunteer.”

“In other words, you were an internet troll.”

        “Well basically, yes.”

        “Next!”

Good for him, that loser. Others should follow him and resign, too, until all Americans have resigned and are replaced by blind.

FOX and CNN’s 10pm news programs are mirroring what’s on their sites: Fox sez he’s resigning, CNN sez no word yet. Fox is probably ultimately right, and now one of CNN’s guests has said he must resign. Though Alan Dershowitz (on the left) just said that if this were Europe it would barely be “Page 26 news”.

It is completely appropriate to delete the comment previous to mine.

The anonymous blogger who insulted Susan Polgar owes her an apology, and should not be allowed to post here anymore.

Thanks for pointing it out. There are about a dozen posts like that and sometimes much worse everyday. They come from the same small group of people who do not want Paul and I to be involved with the USCF.

Once in a while, I miss catching it.

        Thanks again!

This deserves to be on the front page, be it Europe or the U.S.

This man here has been hauling up people as a law enforcer, for indulging in the same activities that he has been caught for now. He is a hypocrite and would serve as a bad role model and example for the citizens of the country, especially younger people who’ve looked up to him.

Unless the U.S. wants it to be known that there are separate laws for commoners and high profile people, I think he should resign and be punished.

all he has to say is “sorry”. do you think if he busted some big fish he would let him go with just a sorry? no he would exploit to the fullest pure scum bag this guy.

Blogger doesn’t show “comment deleted”, or that option isn’t enabled. The comment (Anon 7:25) now “previous to mine” is fine—and its word “blind” refers to the current NYS Lt. Governor, David A. Paterson, who is legally blind.

Yes, you certainly got a “scoop” on this website. Reminds me of the Mary Tyler Moore episode when Lou Grant recalls going with the story “Japanese invade San Diego.”
        Nice going.
