      Brussels International a big success!

      Belgium, Brussels

The 5th edition of the Brussels International Chess Festival was a great success! 113 players with 8 GMs were in the battle for a total prize fund of 5,500 EUR with 1,000 EUR first prize. There were many other prizes for class sections.

The tournament was situated not far from the center of Brussels and the event took place on May 6 and 7, 2007. The time control was 25′ per game.

The top player was GM Ivan Sokolov (2663). He won the tournament in great style. He began with 6/6 in the first day then 7/7 and closed out with 3 draws in the last four games against GMs Nikolic, Andersson et L’Ami to finish in the first place. His final score was 9.5/11, one point more than the two players in the second place. His performance was 2776!

The playing hall was beautiful and every player could eat or drink at the exhibition room of the Peugeot’s garage which was the big sponsor of the tournament.

On Saturday night, GMs were invited to go to a restaurant in the center of Brussels, not far for the tournament.

All players were very happy with the conditions. GM Nikolic was recognized for Fair-play award!
