MADRID, Oct. 17 (Xinhua) — Chinese grandmaster (GM) Bu Xianghzi will fight hard against Norway’s GM Magnus Carlsen on Wednesday for the sole leadership at the Blindfold Chess World Cupbeing played by four other great players, including former world champion Bulgarian GM Veselin Topalov.

Bu will try hard to win his two games, or at least win one and draw the other, on Wednesday since he will gain sole leadership by doing so and become a hard to equal leader in this event, same goes for Carlsen.

Bu and Carlsen lead this event with four points each, a full one-point lead ahead of their nearest rivals, Topalov and Hungarian GM Judith Polgar.

Bu defeated Ukraine native GM Sergei Karjakin 4-1 on Tuesday in their two-round match and leads together with Norwegian GM Magnus Carlsen at the Blindfold Chess World Cup that started on Tuesday in northern Spain’s Biscay province’s capital, Bilbao.

Meanwhile, Carlsen defeated Indian GM Pentala Harikrishna 4-1 in their two-game match on Tuesday, while former world chess champion GM Veselin Topalov (Bulgaria) drew his 2-game match 3-3 against Hungarian GM Judith Polgar.

The standings after the first two rounds are as follows: Bu and Carlsen lead with four points each, Topalov and Polgar have three points each, while Karjakin and Harikrishna are current tailenders with one point each.
