Bu Xiangzhi defeats Ding Liren in Danzhou Hainan Super Tournament
11th to 20th June 2010 in Danzhou city, Hainan province, China

The First Danzhou Hainan Super Tournament is being held from 11th June to 20th June 2010 in Danzhou city, Hainan province, China.

Ten top Chinese Grandmasters compete, with the exception of GM Wang Yue who will play Bazna Kings in Romania from Monday. The playing format is round robin and the time control will be 90 minutes per player with an incremental time of 30 seconds per move.

Bu Xiangzhi defeated Ding Liren in round three after a neat counterattack on the kingside and replaced him as the tournament leader. Ding Liren, who caused major surprise by winning the 2009 China chess champion, and at 2547 elo is still the lowest rated player in the event, had a good start when he won two consecutive games.

The reigning China champion Hao Wang, who took the title few days ago, swiftly punished Zhou Jianchao’s weird treatment of Saemish King’s Indian. Zhao Jun earns his first point by beating Li Chao B in another extremely interesting double Rook endgame (see also Zhou Weiqi – Ding Liren from round two).

      Round 3 results:

GM Ding Liren – GM Bu Xiangzhi 0 – 1
GM Yu Yangyi – GM Zhou Weiqi ½ – ½
GM Wang Hao – GM Zhou Jianchao 1 – 0
GM Hou Yifan – GM Ni Hua ½ – ½
      GM Zhao Jun – GM Li Chao B 1 – 0

      Round 3 standings:

      1. GM Bu Xiangzhi 2681 – 2.5
      2. GM Wang Hao 2722 – 2.0
      3. GM Ding Liren 2547 – 2.0
      4. GM Li Chao B 2619 – 1.5
      5. GM Ni Hua 2667 – 1.5
      6. GM Hou Yifan 2589 – 1.5
      7. GM Yu Yangyi 2585 – 1.5
      8. GM Zhou Weiqi 2585 – 1.0
      9. GM Zhao Jun 2574 – 1.0
      10. GM Zhou Jianchao 2652 – 0.5

      Round 4 pairings:

GM Bu Xiangzhi – GM Li Chao B
GM Ni Hua – GM Zhao Jun
GM Zhou Jianchao – GM Hou Yifan
GM Zhou Weiqi – GM Wang Hao
GM Ding Liren – GM Yu Yangyi
