If you gave Karpov the Position Topalov had today….well..we all know he would have won it. But great grit and courange by Kansky to save it and even be better…that was amazing to see. Good for him! I Think Kramnik and Aronian can..and SHOULD be worried. Sort of makes Carlsens claim that this is a crapshoot….real. I called Kamsky ..Gischuk and Radjabov ..BEFORE this nonsense 4 game matches start…the other math..who cares…Its fun to look at but not fair for the players….they should have more games….Topalov …well…He did not pull the trigger when he had his chance…that’s about it.
This definitively proves that Kamsky is a far superior player and challenger to Anand than Topalov was or ever could be. A thorough trouncing by Kamsky here. There should be no doubt about this stuff, like a crap shoot non-sense. The Radjabov-Kramnik outcome is also pretty much as expected. Radjabov is far superior than Kramnik and that will be demonstrated in the rapid playoffs. Radjabov could not demonstrate his superiority against Kramnik because of Kramnik’s stodgy style, but they don’t call him “Drawnik” for nothing. Also, in the rapids Kramnik will have little time to think, which he needs to defend like he does, Berlin Wall style. If it goes to the blitz he will be even worse off because of the need to think. As for Aronian, he is in the same position as Kramnik, needing time to think against a guy like Grishuk is deadly…
I agree with the previous comment. There were 14 draws out of 16 games played in the first round! I think this is due to the lousy format of this event to determine Anand’s challenger. Just one slip up, one loss and a player here is in big trouble, as his opponent just needs to play for the draw in the remaining games. That is why all the draws! Everybody is playing “not to lose”. I believe that the challenger should be chosen by having a double round robin tournament among the top 10 to 12 players in the world.
