      Carlsen #5 in the world

      FIDE, Top of the World

Magnus Carlsen’s rating is currently at 2733. He is about to gain 32 points to get to 2765!! Levon Aronian’s rating is currently at 2739. He is gaining 24 points to get to 2763! Anand gains about 5 points to get back above 2800 while both Kramnik (2799-11) and Topalov (2780-13) lost points. Morozevich is at 2765 and he is gaining 9 points to get to 2774.

So it looks like Anand (2804) will be #1, followed by Kramnik (2788), Morozevich (2774), Topalov (2767), Carlsen (2765) and Aronian (2763). This is just my own rough calculation. Please feel free to correct any error.

Can Carlsen jump to the top 3 in the next list? Can Morozevich break 2800? What do you think?

I just hope Carlsen won’t get to the top too fast. He would just loose his motivation. On the other hand, I wish he becomes world champion one day cause domination of players from the former Soviet Union in chess is simply boring..

Carlsen will be the next boy-king like King Arthur!

Moro looks like man with the plan. He avoids big tournaments, focusing on stuff that will bring him new points.
From that prospective, he looks like he will break the 2800 mark in next year.
But, I’m not sure if that reflects his strenght.

On the other note, Carlsen will break that mark crushing people around him.

Domination of players from the former Soviet Union? You mean, the likes of Anand and Topalov?

Well, Topalov is from Bulgaria which wasn’t exactly the part o Soviet Union if I remember well, but there are dozens and dozens of players from that non-existing country at the top, including most of world champions. It would be so refreshing to see a Norwegian there.

Erm, Anand’s Indian. Not really part of the ex-Soviet Union!

Carlsen certainly could be number 3 in the next list.
I believe he can leap-frog Topalov and Morozevich.
However Aronian may do the same, so it’s a question of whether Carlsen can stay ahead of Aronian.
So Carlsen could be 3rd or 4th.

I don’t think Morozevich can break 2800. I think his current high rating is an aberration like Ivanchuk’s 6 months ago and that he will go down.

Carlsen has gone up very fast in the last 10 months. It has been really impressive.

Carlsen’s climb to the World Championship is going to be greater than Fischer’s ever was. That is due to the fact that Carlsen is humble and accessible to his fans. On the other hand, due to the lame way that FIDE organizes these tournaments in order to protect players like Anand, Kramnik, and Topalov…Carlsen might not get a chance for the Championship until he is 30 years old.
