Caruana, So, Giri and Nakamura teaming up

Amsterdam, Experience, Holland, NH Chess, Rising Stars

Caruana to return to “Rising Stars vs. Experience”

It has just been confirmed that Fabiano Caruana will be returning to the prestigious “ Rising Star Vs. Experience “ tournament after playing there last year. The tournament will be held from the 11th to the 23rd of August at the NH Grand Hotel Kransnapolsky in Amsterdam, which is the traditional venue for the tournament.

The playing format of this tournament pits 5 “Rising Stars” against 5 “Experience” players playing each other twice in a 10 round robin.

Last year the “Experience” team won 27,5 to 22,5, with Fabiano turning out a 5/10 performance which was the second best for his team, Smeets scoring 6 taking the top spot.

This year’s goal is to improve on that and take 1st place in individual performance, as the prize is entry to the Melody Amber 2011 tournament! However, the competition is very strong as even though the full roster of participants is still incomplete, the best up and rising talents have been confirmed to take part : Nakamura, who only scored 4/10 last year, but has had a great Corus, So, considered by many to be the best young player in the world, and Giri, who convincingly won his B group in the last Corus.

      Rising stars:

      1. Hikaru Nakamura 2708 (1987)
      2. Fabiano Caruana 2675 (1992)
      3. Wesley So 2656 (1993)
      4. Anish Giri 2588 (1994)

      Experienced:

      1. Peter Svidler 2744 (1976)
      2. Peter Heine Nielsen 2697 (1973)
      3. Loek Van Wely 2641 (1972)
      4. Ljubomir Ljubojevic 2571 (1950)

Special thanks to Dario (http://www.scacchierando.net/dblog) for providing us with the information.

How come the USCF doesn’t report about its own players?

Nakamura is far too old (at least 4 years) to play for rissing stars team.

“Nakamura is far too old (at least 4 years) to play for rissing stars team.”

I agree. Besides, Naka is not a ‘rising star’. He already is a star, like it or not.

maybe Nakamura should replaced by Ray Robson. And Caruana himself already a star. Le Quang Liem should be an interesting choice.

I agree with the above posters. There are some odd choices.
