      Chess boom in Lubbock, TX

      Airport, Lubbock, SPICE, Texas

Texas Tech University will host a number of important chess events this summer and fall. Some of them are:

      – SPF chess training for teachers in Texas region 17
      – Susan Polgar All-Star Training (for top girls in the U.S)
      – Chess: It’s a girl’s thing chess camp (we will add a camp for boys next summer)
      – Susan Polgar National Invitational (most prestigious all-girls event in the U.S.)
      – SPICE Cup International Tournament (Category 15, the highest rated 10 player International RR in U.S. history)
      – SPICE Cup Grand Prix
      – Texas Women’s Open Championship, etc.

The city has agreed to place two giant chess sets at the airport for all passengers to play with. In addition, big banners will be displayed in the airport to promote SPICE, TTU and the City of Lubbock, 2008 Chess City of the Year.

More and more schools in the area would like to start chess programs and SPICE is beginning to attract more and more students to TTU. Chess IS booming in Lubbock and many other areas in the U.S. As I said many times in the past, chess can grow tremendously IF it is being promoted properly.

And we have idiots running the USCF to the ground. Thanks Mr. Goichberg for destroying the USCF.

I joined the USCF in 1961 and became a life member 3-4 years later. Except for the names involved nothing has changed in USCF politics. Good luck trying to change policies that have been in place nearly 50 years if not longer!

The USCF is hopeless. I hope they’ll fold soon. I’ll never rejoin again.

That’s great! Who proposed this to the city? Susan? Paul? Hopefully it will be well-received and catch on.

SPF chess training for teachers in Texas region 17

When? What is covered? How much does it cost? How do you sign up? Can teacher from other parts of Texas attend?

It is coming up in July and there is no cost for teachers in the 60+ school districts in this region as it is sponsored by region 17. Unfortunately, the sign up has reached its limit almost immediately. There are plans for a number of sessions in the future.

        Best wishes,
        Susan Polgar
