      Chess festival opens in Baku

      On 1 April, the chess festival dedicated to the 91st anniversary of the birth of national leader Heydar Aliyev opened in Baku.

      Speaking at the opening ceremony, Deputy Minister of Education Jeyhun Bayramov said that in Azerbaijan every year various events are held to mark the birthday of national leader Heydar Aliyev, including the traditional republican chess tournament.

      The festival, organized by the Ministry of Education, involves teams of students from Baku, Ganja, Sumgayit, Mingachevir, Shirvan, Shaki, Lankaran, and other cities and regions.

      To participate in the competition, which will last 5 days, 396 students were registered.

      The matches will run on the Swiss system. Each team consists of three boys and three girls aged 7-14.
