Eight schools from the Tigard-Tualatin and Sherwood school districts competed in an elementary-level Chess for Success Tournament held at Edy Ridge Elementary in Sherwood on Feb. 6, with the Edy Ridge team winning the tournament by half a point, which qualifies the team for state.

Middleton Elementary was only a point away from second place, and Hopkins and Archer Glen elementary schools had strong showings as well.

Sherwood players qualifying for the state tournament in March included: Jackson Hicken, a fourth-grader at Edy Ridge; Nate Hicken, a second-grader at Edy Ridge; Bailey Wickham and Danny Dhas, fourth-graders at Middleton, who all qualified for the K-4 division; and fifth-graders Jaspreet Dhillon at Middleton, Josh Duricka at Edy Ridge and Arjun Vijay at Edy Ridge, who qualified for the fifth-grade championship.
