Chess Grandmaster to play chess exhibition in Greenwood

Ftacnik, Greenwood Chess Club, South Carolina

Chess Grandmaster to play chess exhibition in Greenwood
      08.JUN.10

At the Greenwood Mall on Tuesday June 15 Greenwood welcomes Grandmaster Lubomir Ftacnik who will provide a simultaneous “simul” exhibition, playing all ages and all skill levels of chess challengers at the same time. This popular chess master is touring major cities of South Carolina with stops in Charleston, Columbia, Greenville and Greenwood. This exhibition tour heightens awareness of scholastic chess in the Lakelands and the 2010 South Carolina Open chess tournament held in Greenville June 11-13.

The simul event is free to players and spectators. Donations always appreciated to help support local scholastic and community chess activities. Player seats available on a first-come-first-serve basis. On-site registration for player seat assignment begins at 6:00 PM and simul begins at 6:30.

GM Ftacnik is a welcome visitor to the USA, where he has attended chess summer camps, promoted his books and playing in tournaments. In 2006, he finished joint first at the Las Vegas National Open and followed up with an outright win at the 2006 South Carolina Open.

This is the 3rd consecutive year Greenwood casual and tournament chess players have attempted to win a game with a Grandmaster visiting Greenwood, with no success. Can anyone beat a chess master? Players from other cities in South Carolina have done it. What local player will be the first? Who will endure longest? Come out and see.

Remember to bring your camera and something to autograph. All are welcome and encouraged to this rare, unique and fun event. Hosted by the family friendly Greenwood Chess Club and sponsored by Precision Tune Auto Care (across from the mall). Contact Mike Games 864-389-1180 or MGames@Yahoo.com
