With the Nintendo Wii’s appeal to casual gamers everywhere, it is inevitable that they would bring one of the best strategy games ever created: Chess. Currently being called Wii Chess, this game has quite a few twists that long-time players may be interested in knowing.
While very little details on the game have been released, there have been quite a few rumors going around regarding the game. Among the more notable ones include this game being part of Nintendo’s WiiWare or even the game being Mario-themed. One thing is for sure though, this will definitely need online multiplayer. After all, it can get boring playing against a computer over and over.

I wonder how long it will capture the attention of the Wii owners? Will it engage them long enough? Hopefully they’ve thrown in plenty of eye candy.
yes, OTB or OTN (over the net) is much more engaging than against a machine.
I wonder if the controller will allow us to slam the pieces down to intimidate? 🙂

I have Virtual Chess64 for Nintendo’s N64 console. Virtual Chess for PC was a good chess program. Earlier versions of it ranked at 2nd places in Computer World Championships, in 1990 and 1997. But the N64 cartridge version was trash. It was much too weak. It had only simple level settings with numbers like level 1…10, without documentation about the time consumption, each. It did not display a pv. Except graphically, I could not recognise any similarity with the PC version.
Let’s hope it will be done much better in 2007, than in 1998. Hahaha! 🙂 But to be honest, I have no Wii and I don’t plan to buy one.
