Chess Trivia and tidbits from Bilbao

Bilbao, Chess tidbits, chess trivia, Grand Slam, Spain

      Do you know this Grandmaster?

He is in Bilbao as Aronian’s second. I asked him how he feels about the tournament site being about a 15-20 minute walk from the hotel. He said that he actually prefers it this way. He also said it makes it more special to go to a place that is dedicated for the chess tournament rather than in a conference room in a hotel. And he does not mind the walk either…

I asked Vishy Anand if he will be in Dresden. He said that he will decide after his match against Kramnik.

I had wonderful conversations with Henrik Carlsen, especially about Magnus. Both Magnus Carlsen and Teimour Radjabov are in Bilbao with their respective fathers.

As I mentioned earlier, Ivanchuk is in Bilbao with his second, GM Leon Hoyos from Mexico.

      More to come later …

        OFF TOPIC

Since when are the “live ratings” used for purpose of displaying the players rating on OFFICIAL tournament page??? And now Chessbase is claiming that the average rating is 2775 making it the 22 category tournament. Only the official ratings can be used for these purposes and the average rating is “only” 2768 (category 21).
