Cindy Hsu came to the Polgar Chess Center (in Forest Hills, NY) this afternoon to do a story about the wonderful benefits of chess for young people. She was so wonderful with the kids. Her bright beautiful smile and upbeat demeanor made them feel so comfortable. This was especially helpful when none of them were on TV before and they were somewhat nervous.
It will be aired in the next two weeks on CBS TV in the Parent 2 Parent segment. I will keep you posted on the exact date and time. WCBS-TV
Cindy Hsu co-anchors “CBS 2 News at Noon” and hosts the daily segment “Parent 2 Parent.” She joined CBS 2 in 1993 as a correspondent.
Prior to WCBS-TV, Hsu worked as a reporter and anchor for WFRV-TV Green Bay, WI., and for WTOV-TV Steubenville, Ohio. She began her broadcasting career as an associate producer for WTVR-TV Richmond, Va.
Hsu’s work has been recognized with numerous awards. Most recently, she won an Emmy for Outstanding Single Hard News Story for “Smuggled From China,” a piece on the horrific plights of Chinese refugees from the Golden Venture ship. Hsu also won an Emmy for Outstanding Coverage of an Anticipated Breaking News Story during the snowstorm of 1994. She has also been recognized by the North Jersey Press Club.
Hsu is also extremely active within the Asian-American community. She participates in the Big Sister program, sits on the Advisory Board of APEX, a group that pairs Asian professionals with recent immigrants and young people who need guidance, and serves on the Board of Directors of the Museum of Chinese in the Americas and the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation. Additionally, she has been the co-chair of Cooks For Kids, an annual event that raises money for children living with AIDS and HIV. Hsu has also served on the Newswatch Advisory Council, which monitors fairness in journalism, and is a former President of the New York Chapter of the Asian American Journalists Association.
Hsu recently returned from China where she adopted a baby girl named Rosie. She is also a world-class dragon boater, competing with team Women in Canoe. They represented the United States in the 2001 World Championship.
Hsu was born in Honolulu, Hawaii to a Coast Guard family who moved every two to four years. She graduated for Virginia Tech University in 1988 with a degree in communication studies. She currently resides in New York City.
