        Is there some kind of joke? How come the online transmission says 1-0 for Short after a short 1 move game???!?

        and here’s the content (republished w/o permission):

        At the start of round 8 of the Corus Chess Tournament, Ivan Cheparinov, top seed in Grandmaster Group B, lost his game against Nigel Short for refusing to shake the Brit’s hand. According to the FIDE Handbook,

        “Any player who does not shake hands with the opponent (or greets the opponent in a normal social manner in accordance with the conventional rules of their society) before the game starts in a FIDE tournament or during a FIDE match (and does not do it after being asked to do so by the arbiter) or deliberately insults his/her opponent or the officials of the event, will immediately and finally lose the relevant game.”

        Chief Arbiter Thomas van Beekum was a witness when Cheparinov refused Short’s offer to shake hands twice and the Bulgarian’s game was declared a loss as a result.

        Where is Anna’s 1-0 gainst the troll who wouldn’t shake hands with her?

        It just goes to show FIDES male chauvanistic attitude against girls and women! I bet you any thing that FIDE is just bunch cranky old women haters and young peter-puffers!

        I am furious!

        @chess cynic

        Anna didn’t claim the win, as she didn’t know about the rule as she stated; and I don’t know if the incident was notices by the referees.

        Short did claim.

        I do think that makes a difference and was the reason, not chauvinism (although I completely do agree with your comment about chauvinism in chess in general).
