Cuba Climbs in Chess World Ranking

Cuba climbed to the 18th place in the World Chess country rank published today by the World Chess Federation (FIDE).
The country rank takes into account the average rating of the top 10 players. That”s what places Cuba 18th, thanks to the 2,589 ELO points, which allows Cuba to improve its position from 21st place to 18th.
What contributed the most was the improvement of Grand Master Lazaro Bruzon , who climbed to 58th in men’s world ranking, his best individual ranking, with 2,679 ELO points.
Leinier Dominguez was ratified as the number one Cuban chess player with 2,716 ELO points, placed at 29th in the men’s world ranking.
Yuniesky Quesada has 2,614 ELO points and is the third of the top ten in the country.
Other chess players that contributed to Cuba”s better place in FIDE World Ranking by Country were Fidel Corrales, Jesus Nogueiras, Holden Hernandez, Omar Almeida, Isam Ortiz, Yuri Gonzalez and Camilo Gomez, following Quesada in that same order.
