S.F. girl takes third in chess tournament
A Santa Fe fifth-grader placed third in the state chess championship for girls held Saturday at Kaune Elementary School. Sarah Blog, who attends Tara School in Santa Fe, competed with the 12 top-rated scholastic chess players in New Mexico, taking third place at the competition.
The oldest player was a high-school junior.
Deanna Kristek, of Horizon Academy South in Albuquerque, is the new state champion and moves on to represent the state at the Susan Polgar National Open Championship for Girls this summer.
Rebecca Anne Deland of Albuquerque’s Manzano Day School placed second in the tournament.

Congrats Dianna!
Congratulations Deanna… you’re on the right path to success!
Just one correction. The NM Polgar representative is Deanna Kristek, not Dianna. The Santa Fe Newspaper got it wrong.
Congratulations to all of the girls who played in this event. And, it should be noted that Rebecca Deland, the 2nd place winner, is also a 5th grader.
