      Deep Junior, World Computer Championship

      Israelis win computer chess tournament

      By JERUSALEM POST STAFF

      11/23/2011 18:33

Deep Junior beat teams from around the world without losing a single game.

It was the seventh world title that the Israeli team has won.

“It is a tremendous achievement winning this difficult tournament again, and another token of excellence of Israeli software and Israeli chess,” Bushinsky told The Jerusalem Post on Wednesday.

The prestigious event was organized by the International Computer Game Association. It has been held annually since 1994 within the framework of a computer game Olympiad which includes other mind games played by computers.

Israeli chess computer program Deep Junior, programmed by software engineers Amir Ban and Shay Bushinsky and assisted by Grandmaster Alon Greenfeld, won the 2011 world computer chess championship held in Tilburg in The Netherlands this week.

The World Computer Chess Championship is a VERY BAD JOKE!!! Why? Without Houdini or Rybka, there is no point doing this WCCC. More, the tiny number of games played between each opponent during this WCCC makes this competition completely USELESS!!

Check any chess engine ratings and you will know for sure who is the true champion: Houdini 2.0 for the time being.
For instance, check “The CCRL 40/40 Ratings – All engines (40 MOVES IN 40 MIN; TESTED AT DIFFERENT NUMBERS OF CORES; TABLEBASES USED; PONDER OFF; HASH USED?; GENERAL BOOK [UP TO 12 MOVES] )” at http://www.computerchess.org.uk/ccrl/4040.live/cgi/compare_engines.cgi?class=All+engines&print=Rating+list&print=Results+table&print=LOS+table&table_size=12&cross_tables_for_best_versions_only=1

2MIG: w/o Kasparov and/or Carlsen “there is no point doing” that WorldChessChamp? And let human play at least 48 games to be sure…

Ha well… Junior isn’t even in the top 10 computer programs atm, so it’s a bit like if Gelfand won the 2012 world championship. Although a human is typically considered more spasmodic in performance than a specific version of a chess engine. In reality I think the Computer World Chess Championship is losing credibility fast. It might not exist in a few years unless they change their policies.
