      Cuban Chess Player Dominguez Classifies for Second Round

      Moscow, Aug 29.- Cuban chess player and Grand Master Leinier Dominguez has qualified for the second round of the World Chess Cup of Khanty-Mansiysk, Russia, after eliminating Iranian Elshan Moradiabadi 1.5 to 0.5 on Monday.

      Dominguez (2,719 points ELO) tied the match to beat Moradiabadi (2,532 points ELO), a man whom Dominguez had defeated a day before.

      Dominguez needed 72 movements of a Grunfeld Defense to end one of the 47 matches in a day marked by the elimination of Hungarian GM Peter Leko (2,717 points ELO) after losing 0.5-1.5 to US Samuel Shankland (2,539 ELO).

      Dominguez will play Moldavian player Víktor Bologan (2,678 ELO) on Wednesday.

      Víktor Bologan came to the 64-player series with a 1.5-0.5 victory over Polish Bartosz Socko (2,631 ELO).

      Cuban players Lazaro Bruzon (2,673 ELO) and Yuniesky Quesada (2,635) will decide who classifies for the next stage in fast matches, after they tied in 21 moves of an Open Variation of the Spanish Opening. Quesada is playing with the white pieces.

      The Cuban team has lost Fidel Corrales (2,585 ELO), Isam Ortiz (2,556) and Frank de la Paz (2,477), who were beaten twice by Hungarian Judith Polgar (2,699), Russian Ian Nepomniachtchi (2,711) and Azeri Teimour Radjabov (2,744) in that order.

      Chinese Yue Wang (2,709) eliminated by Brazilian Alexandr Fier (2,566). (Prensa Latina).
