Cuban-Led Team Wins Spanish Chess Club Championship
      Monday, September 16, 2013

Havana, Cuba , Sep 16.- Cuban GM Leinier Dominguez managed to achieve a win during the last round through which he helped his team reaching for second consecutive year the title in the Spanish Chess Club Championship, Honor Division.

Leinier, 2,757 Elo points, said goodbye to the city of Linares with a triumph over Canadian Kevin Spraggett (2568), to support the 5-1 win of his team Sestao Naturgas Energia against Barcelona Chess School.

Such performance allowed the also monarch squad of 2012 to keep the scepter with 11 points and better tie-break than Solvay, which also reached that amount of points, when beating 4.5 – 1.5 VTI Atocha.

The Cuban GM, also leader of that team a year ago, had this time a more discrete performance and earned a deficit of 4.3 units, which he will try to regain in the Grand Prix that shall begin on September 21 in Paris, France, though there will be greater demands.

The Gros Xake Taldea ended third, owner of nine points, after defeating 4.5 to 1.5 Equigoma, a squad in which played the also Cuban Lazaro Bruzon (2699), who conceded his only loss in this closing round.

After getting five draws and a win, Bruzón was beaten by Frenchman Etienne Bracot (2793) and thus he lost 3.1 Elo units.

The Equigoma finished sixth with seven points behind Club Magic Extremadura (8 ) and SC Colón Sabadell (7).

Barcelona Chess School and Atocha ended seventh and eighth with just two and one pooints, in that order, and will go down to the First Division next year. (ACN)
