LEINIER INVITED TO FIDE WORLD MIND GAMES
      September 3, 2014
      Written by ACN

Cuban chess player has 2,760 and 2,728 ELO points in classic and blitz games, respectively. There, he will play against tough opponents like Armenian Levon Aronian (2,805/2,850) who is the runner-up in the world ranking.

Other elite members to play in the WMG are Russian Alexander Grischuk (2,795/2,778) and Ian Nepomniachtchi (2,730/2,880), Azerbaijan Shakriyar Mamedyarov (2, 743/2,824) and French Maxime Vachier-Lagrave (2,766/2,777).

FIDE report highlights the presence of Ukrainian Vassily Ivanchuck (2,735/2,720) and Ruslan Ponomariov (2,723/2,758) as well as Chinese Yue Wang (2,715/2,682).

Yue Wang won rapid games (20 minutes) a year ago and helped China to win the tournament with 9 gold medals, 7 silvers, and 5 bronzes.

In last edition, sports like bridge, go, checkers, and xiangqi —a sort of Chinese chess— were played and a dozen of countries were also represented.

Leinier, who attended the 2011 games, ended fourth in rapid games, and 12th in blitz and Basque systems, where every player plays two simultaneous games.
