      GM norm, Malaysia, Philippines

Pinoy Dimakiling eyes GM title in Malaysia
Cebu Daily News 8:19 am | Wednesday, November 7th, 2012

INTERNATIONAL MASTER Oliver Dimakiling looks to join the growing list of Filipino grandmasters when he competes in the 4th Penang Heritage City International Chess Open 2012 on Dec. 10-15 at the Red Rock Hotel in Penang, Malaysia.

The Davao City native Dimakiling is seeking his third GM norm. He earned his first GM norm by finishing as co-champion in the 2006 Malaysian Open. He got his second GM norm in this year’s National Open Chess Championships dubbed as Battle of the Grandmaster in Aklan.

Also playing are international master-elect Edgar Reggie Olay, Fide masters Mari Joseph Turqueza, Christopher Castellano and Julius Joseph de Ramos, national masters Stewart Manaog, Efren Bagamasbad, Nelson Villanueva and Franz Barreto.
