Wow…I wonder whats the thinking behind this?
Fischers rating should have about 100 points added to it due to inflation but still….It’s quite a sureal thing for FIDE to do. Though those cats exist somewhere I can’t imagine.

I would believe it’s more than 100 points, considering that 2780 was 40 years ago!! Likewise, Kasparov’s rating would need to be inflation adjusted as well.

Ratings are irrelevant when speaking of World Champions, especially under the microscope of the Cold War.

That being said, Fischer’s inferior rankings with this generation is his own fault, better, the fault of his pathologies. He was a flash in the pan, internationally.

This hasn’t any sense at all !
Why not Alekhine, then (I know Elo system wasn’t working at this time, but it seems as irrelevant) ??

It doesn’t mean anything, because either Fisher or Kasparov would crash any of the top 10 players if they were playing at their top level (except Carlsen maybe)…

How can a fair Ratings comparison be made between the truly great players of ~ 40 yrs ago vs today’s generation…., Fischer became the World Champion when computers/internet/chess analysis software, etc as we know it did not exist at all! Everyting he accomplished was totally self-reliant, namely- HIS brain, no dependence on a computer ‘brain’ to analyze for him.
