The five year old child Manuel Alejandro López Suárez attracts attention these days of coaches, competitors and public the attending Cienfuegos Provincial Chess Academy.
López Suárez, who is a student of La Edad de Oro nursery school, plays with a rare talent in infants of his age, according to Santos Home Cabrera, chess coach for child categories.

He’s fast, disciplined and easily solves problems, the coach told ACN.

He emphasized it is not enough having the ability, but also working hard daily to develop it, and added he is training the child for a year, who even beat him once during a class.

Due to his short age, the boy receives individual lessons to avoid being distracted by the presence of older children, he said.

López Suárez explained that his passion for chess began when watching his cousins playing on the computer, so he learned to move the pieces when he was 3 and months later his parents took him to the academy.

He stressed that he would like to be like Jose Raul Capablanca and face Leinier Dominguez.

Sometimes you have to scold him because he trains on the computer until late hours of the night, Manuel Lopez, father of the infant said.

He also studies on Saturdays through the chess classes given on TV.
