Qe4 is interesting. If black takes the Queen the back rank is unprotected, and the rook check is threatened. Pushing the black h pawn obviously doesn’t help and if black pushes the g pawn white can begin attacking with Qe5+ or check with the rook first

        Rd4 seems to work
        … Rxd4 (or Qxd4)
Qb8+ and neither Q or R can intervene to avoid
        …. Q moves from R threat
        Rxf4 White is piece ahead

        1. Rd4! is not only the only move to win, but the only move not to lose as well. It wins at least a full rook.

        Why not Qf4?
Am I missing something incredibly obvious?!

        Rookworm,

        1. Qe7 Qxe7 2. Rd8+ Qxd8 is immediate loss.

        1. Qxb7 is better, but after a simple move like 1…h6, the a-pawn is sufficient to win for Black.
