      David Beckham, Soccer

David Beckham has headed to America.

He is set to be unveiled by the Galaxy later on today and will make his debut for his new team in a friendly against Chelsea on July 21. How will he impact soccer in the US? Are you a fan of Beckham?

It will boost U.S. interest for a while, but I feel the sport will unfortunately sink back into relative obscurity. The major networks in the U.S. will never pick up on big league soccer until they can break regularly for commercials, which is near impossible with continuous game play.

We do have Fox Soccer Channel and Gol TV on satellite, but the ones subscribing to those channels are typically fans of the sport already.

I love soccer, but the fan base will not increase much until there are commercial breaks or “TV timeouts”. I don’t see this happening anytime in the near future.

Chess has plenty of room for commercial breaks. perhaps too much! Fast matches or blitz seems to me to be ideally suited for TV. We just need our Beckham.

Based on how he appears, people who don’t watch football would assume he is a soft player. But, that is not true. He has all it takes. He is strong and agile, he runs a lot during the games.
He is a true proffesional and he REALY knows how to handle the ball. True leader. Good for him and US football (socer or whatever)

Beckham is an elderly sportsman and perhaps the right hero for the US male football – uups – soccer team … why not integrate him to the more glorious US women soccer / football team?

what a “six-pack-belly-footed-genius”, who impressed me year after year with his outstanding achievements e.g. for Real Madrid or the English national team! US – girl’s soccer will benefit for sure!

I admit to be also impressed by his “spice-girl-barbie-doll-silicon-vallies” … this multicolored wallpapered bone… what a sight!

        ok, i’m simply male, thus i’m primitive and i’m a cynic…

i love Beck’s…and he’ll kick US (or simply us) soccer to never known heights… for sure…

        1.e4 … black resigns

        greetings

        Dear god – i need a cureLOL

I like Michael Owen better as a player, but I can’t deny Beckham has the right mix of skill and marketability.

I was surprised to see a report many months ago that Beckham was no longer even a first string player on his European team, at the time he was signed into the American soccer league. Was that report correct?

        I dunno what to believe.
