Candidates Matches, Gata Kamsky, Kazan, Veselin Topalov

Kamsky Sets Back Bulgaria’s Topalov in FIDE Candidate Matches 2011

      Sports | May 6, 2011, Friday

Bulgarian chess master Veselin Topalov lost to Gata Kamsky in his second match at the FIDE Candidate Matches 2011.

After drawing his first match against Kamsky on Thursday, Topalov is now behind 0.5:1.5. On Friday with the white pieces Topalov surrendered to his rival from the US on the 31st move.

Topalov and Kamski will be playing two more classic chess games on Saturday and Sunday. In the event of a draw, an accelerated match will be played on May 9, Monday.

The FIDE Candidate Matches 2011 are taking place in Kazan, the Republic of Tatarstan, Russian Federation. The winner of the Candidates Matches 2011 will qualify to challenge the World Champion GM Viswanathan Anand in a 12-game match during the first half of 2012.

After in 2010, Topalov, a former world champion, as the challenger lost the world title match with Anand in Sofia, he has been hoping to get a second chance to beat the Indian chess master for the world title; his chance to achieve that is a win in the FIDE Candidate Matches 2011.

Back in 2009, Topalov beat Kamsky in a challengers’ match to win the right to face Anand for the world chess title.

The other three pairs of rivals in Kazan are Alexander Grischuk and Levon Aronian; Teimour Radjabov and Vladimir Kramnik; Boris Gelfand and Shakhriyar Mamedyarov.

I agree, he’s out to get Gata every game and at one point the latter will understandably crack.
