      Gelfand turns 40

      Birthday, Boris Gelfand

Grandmaster, Boris Gelfand was born on 24 June 1968. A member of the world elite for almost two decades, he won two Interzonal tournaments, twice reached the semi-finals of the FIDE world championships, took a bronze medal at the 2007 world championship in Mexico and, at the much earlier stage of his career, was also third in the world by rating.

Gelfand is one of the few players who represented as many as three countries at the Chess Olympiads: USSR, Byelorussia and, finally, Israel where he now lives.

Ivanchuk and Anand will be 40 next year! You can still be at the top of your game at 40.
