        Nice questions.

However the third cannot be answered without defining what is a city first.

In Zürich life is perhaps good but I am sure that there are cities in The Swiss where life is even better.
The survey did take only 350 cities in account. i.e a few cities per country.

I believe the most populous city is Shanghai, followed by Mumbai and Sao Paulo, which latter city had been number one for quite some time.

A few months ago, according to CTV News, the Mercer Report had Moscow displacing Tokyo as the world’s most expensive city to live in (Seoul, if memory serves, has also passed Tokyo).

It also mentioned that Norway, Sweden, and Canada were the three top countries with respect to the highest standards of living. Though, as I recall, it gave the name of a smaller, rural city (whose name I can’t recall) as being the best city to live in (i.e. not Oslo!).

What have you heard or learned, Susan?

        My answers:

What is the most populated major city in the world?

a: One can only see so many people in a day.

What is the most expensive major city in the world?

a: It more depends on what you like to do than where you live.

Which city has the highest quality of life in the world

a: The quality of life is the best where you are, not where you imagine yourself to be.

Looks like Moscow is the most expensive now.

Mercer is the company that does the survey that is most respected.

        Moscow
        Seoul
        Tokyo
        Hong Kong
        London

are the top 5 in order given. NYC is #10.

Luxembourg ranks as the world’s top city for personal safety and security, according to a quality of life survey by Mercer Human Resource Consulting. The city scores 122.5 followed by Helsinki, Bern, Geneva, and Zurich which take joint second place with scores of 120.

So, thanks to Anon 5:09:57 p.m. for providing those figures, as my guesses of “Shanghai” and “Mumbai” were right on (“Sao Paulo” was pretty crummy, though!). Likewise, thanks to Anon 5:23:36 p.m., it seems that news broadcast about the Mercer Report had stuck like velcro!

After reading these stats, I myself “Googled” and found the following site, whose figures paint a different picture, since, as they wrote:

“NOTE: Numbers shown include population within the recognized metro area of the city, and they include people living in the immediate surrounding area outside of the established border of the city.

        1. Tokyo, Japan – 28,025,000
        2. Mexico City, Mexico – 18,131,000
        3. Mumbai, India – 18,042,000
        4. Sáo Paulo, Brazil – 17, 711,000
        5. New York City, USA – 16,626,000
        6. Shanghai, China – 14,173,000
        7. Lagos, Nigeria – 13,488,000
        8. Los Angeles, USA – 13,129,000
        9. Calcutta, India – 12,900,000
        10. Buenos Aires, Argentina – 12,431,000″
