German Chess Federation nominates Karpov for FIDE Presidency

Anatoly Karpov, FIDE, German Chess Federation, President

      Press statement:

At the beginning of October FIDE will conduct elections in Khanty-Mansiysk, Russia. A few weeks ago former World Champion Anatoly Karpov announced his intention to run for the FIDE Presidency. The President of the German Chess Federation Robert von Weizsäcker has warmly welcomed this decision and has officially nominated Anatoly Karpov as a candidate. I think Karpov would make a very good FIDE president. He’s been around high level chess more than just about anyone.
