      GM Daniel Alsina Winner of Magistral Elgoibar

      Alsina, Spain


      Grandmaster Daniel Alsina Leal emerged winner of the Magistral Elgoibar round robin tournament after defeating the legendary GM Oleg Romanishin with black pieces in the last 9th round.

      At the same time the overnight co-leader GM Cristhian Cruz of Peru took a quick draw with the Belgian champion IM Tanguy Ringoir and remained half a point behind the winner.

      The local player David Astasio Lopez claimed the IM norm despite the last round loss.

      Magistral Elgoibar was held on 15-21st December in Elgoibar, Gipuzkoa, Basque Country, Spain.

      1. GM Daniel Alsina Leal ESP 2542 – 6,5
      2. GM Cristhian Cruz PER 2549 – 6,0
      3. GM Dragan Paunovic SRB 2500 and IM Tanguy Ringoir BEL 2506 – 5,5
      5. GM Aleksa Strikovic SRB 2529 – 5,0
      6. FM David Astasio Lopez ESP 2397 – 4,5
      7. IM Alejandro Franco Alonso ESP 2485 – 4,0
      8. GM Oleg Romanishin UKR 2495 – 3,5
      9. IM Angel Arribas Lopez ESP 2488 – 3,0
      10. Gustavo Barrenetxea ESP 2221 – 1,5
