      GM Vallejo Pons is 2015 Spanish chess champion

      The 80th Spanish Individual Chess Championship was held from August 23rd to August 31st, 2015, in Linares, Spain.

      The event was a 9-round Swiss open tournament with tempo of play 90’ + 30”. Many players, part of the Spanish chess elite, took part in it.

      GM Francisco Vallejo Pons became 2015 Spanish champion but not without facing serious opposition. He tied for the first place with the young prodigy GM David Anton Guijarro and IM Mikel Huerga Leache at 7 points each, but a better tie-break score favored Vallejo Pons for the gold.

      Anton Guijarro took the silver medal, while Huerga Leache remained third.

      IM Sabrina Vega Gutierrez emerged the best female player with 6 points and 12th position in the final standings.
