MANILA — Filipino Grandmaster Wesley So again split the point with GM Vladimir Malakhov of Russia in the second game of their fourth-round battle in the 2009 World Chess Cup in Khanty-Mansiysk, Russia.

Both players agreed to draw the game after 38 moves.

According to the competition’s Website, the scores are now tied, 1-1, forcing the two chess players into rapid games Wednesday in Khanty-Mansiysk to determine who will advance into the fifth round.

The 16-year-old So and Malakhov earlier ended their first game on Monday in a draw after 65 moves.

So earlier eliminated 2007 Chess Cup champion and Super GM Gata Kamsky of the US after scoring 1.5 against the Russian-born player’s 0.5 in the third round.

The Bacoor-Cavite chess player also scored an upset over Super GM Vassily Ivanchuk in Round 2.
