I was thinking of the Giri tactic that was reviewed earlier this week when I first looked at this one, and while one can sacrifice both rooks and mate with the queen in 5 moves total, in this case, one can sacrifice a rook and the queen and mate in 3 total:

        1. …..Rh4!
        2. gh4 Qh4!!
        3. Kh4 Rh2# All nice and forced.

        Rxh4+, h4
        Rh2+, Kxh2
        Qxh4+, Kg2
        Qg3+, Kh1
        Qh3#

there are plenty of ways to finish.
        1……. Rxh4+!
        2. gxh4 Rh2+!
        3. Kxh2 Qxh4+
        4. Kg2 Qg3+
        5. Kh1 Qh3#
        is one among them.

I don’t seem a forced mate, but Black can get White’s Queen for a Rook:

        1. … Nxg3
        2. Ng2

        Anything else allows Qxh4#

        2. … Rxg2
        3. Kxg2

Also here, Rxg2 or anything else allows Qxh4#

        3. … Ne2+

Now White must move the King, allowing 4. Nxd4

Yancey’s solution is cute. I got my solution instantly and did not look for shorter version.
